Professional Procrastinator

I've now been in Starbucks for two hours and I've done a lot of work on one of my two assignments due in the next two days, but my brain needed a break so I thought I'd procrastinate and write a blog. Tomorrow I have a project due for my Human Sexuality class. Given the choice of a paper or presentation it seemed easy to choose presentation. This project has to be set up as curriculum for a class on sexuality. I got to pick my audience, context, content, and create the presentation to go along with it. So my audience is Christian singles in their 20s and 30s (I thought I could relate well). The curriculum will cover basic anatomy stuff, psychological effects of sexual behavior on an individual, and a Jesus aspect too. Its actually turning out to be fairly interesting...maybe I'll approach my pastor and see if I can use it..lol.
The best part of doing this in Starbucks is that every presentation needs visuals and that means I have to search for images on the web. For the anatomy portion I'm making a point that we can't help but have physical reactions to people we find attractive by using photos of People magazines most beautiful male and female in the world: Zac Efron and Jennifer Lopez. The looks I got when searching for sexy pics of those two were pretty funny! Then I searched for illustrations of anatomy with labels, also providing some interesting results and looks from the people around. To top it all off I'm wearing a shirt proudly displaying the name of my conservative Christian university. Awesome!
I should get back to work. In about an hour I'll need to leave to get ready for tonight. Hanging out with some of my favorite people tonight and then going to welcome home friends who have been in Haiti all week. Although I'm super jealous that I don't get to be there this year, I can't wait to hear stories and see pictures!! So as I leave you to get back to school, a pic of the Haiti team last year...

Diagnosing a Legend

An assignment for one of my classes is to diagnose a fictional character; write an intake, five axis diagnosis, create a treatment plan, all of it. So I wanted to choose a movie that I owned, knew well, and could enjoy watching repeatedly. It also needed to be a character who you are given background on so that you can get a better diagnosis. Obviously, I chose The Phantom of the Opera. Even though I'm not really enjoying writing his intake...I LOVE doing the research! Love this movie/play/soundtrack/any-other-way-to-hear-it.

SPOILER ALERT: I'm about to vent so don't get upset!
This weekend is awesome and annoying. Awesome: time with my best friends!! Mel will be in town so she and I plus R's parents and HottPink are all having dinner together Saturday!! After that a couple of us will be headed to the airport (if the flight is on time) to welcome home our friends who have been doing missions in Haiti. We LOVE that place and wish we could be there, but we'll settle for letting them know we're glad they're home. Annoying: Two of the five adults in the house are leaving for the weekend. This high volume break would be nice, but no, we're adding an adult. Not that I blame her for coming or being invited, but good grief I want to live in a house with less people! I miss a bedroom, a bedroom door, freedom to shower when I feel like it, waking and sleeping on my own schedule....the list goes on. For some reason it is really getting to me this week. So in my effort not to anger the other four adults in my house, I'm telling you blogosphere. I know they may read it, but I doubt they do.

So I'm doing my best to focus on the fun time with friends and I'm hoping to get in some shopping too! And, for your veiwing pleasure, the handsome man who played the Phantom in the movie version....enjoy!

Sex, Disorders, Girls, and Exams (Part 2)

I found out that at least one person reads my blog! Lol..exciting! I know this follow up has taken a while to write, but I'll fill you in on everything. This could be a long post!

You've read about my Human Sexuality class and the autobiography I have to write. That paper is due this Friday and I've started working on it, but its still weird and I still plan on turning it in with my initials only!

Now for the Girls and Exam portion: Last fall I attended my intensive class for Group Therapy. During that class the put everyone into groups so that we can practice facilitating and participating in group therapy. My group was comprised of myself and six amazing women; Lindsay, Terri, Bekah, Heather, Tracy, and Theresa. Terri, Bekah, Heather, and I all were able to take our COUN667 class together so that we could see each other. Lindsay had previous obligations and came the week before. That meant she and I got to hang out because I was there for COUN610 (even though I get to hang out with her because she's only an hour away from me). Tracy lives in Lynchburg, so she may not have been in class with us but we got to see her for dinner one night! These are a great group of women! Doing online work can sometimes make you feel like you are the only one struggling to be a full time student and live the rest of your life. These ladies are always there to be frustrated with, complain to, and laugh with over everything related to school. I love them. We figured out that even though we'll all be finishing up in different semesters, we will all graduate and walk together in May 2012! That will be SO much fun!

Oh the comprehensive exam... In order to graduate I am required to pass two comprehensive exams. The one that is unique to my school is the Integrative test, which is free. It is fairly short (40-50 questions) and it focuses on the integration of psychology and Christianity. Sadly, I did not pass this part. However, it is free to retake, my pastor is my proctor for the retake, and I can do it in the comfort of my church in about 30 minutes. Now for the exciting part. The Comprehensive Exam is something that almost every counseling student is required to pass before graduation. It is $100 to take, you get three chances, and it takes anywhere from 2 hours to 4 hours to complete. This part...I PASSED!!! It was the most difficult section, the section I studied for and the section that is expensive! I'm one step closer to graduation!! By the way, when I finish this degree there will be celebrations!!

Now to the time since school. I left from school, drove the two hours home, hopped in the car and rode the next 3.5 hours to the family beach house. It was a good way to readjust to living with other people. I spent two weeks alone in a hotel room so going back into a house of 5 adults, a toddler and two dogs would have been too much. So I got to work up to it by spending a couple days with just my parents and my dog. We did yard work and relaxed a little. A week of work was a little hectic because I had been gone for two weeks. Last weekend was spent doing yard work at home; mowing the lawn and cleaning out the gutters (bleck!). Then I got to head back down to the beach! Did a little push mowing and got to lay out!! After that I had one of my favorite meals down there, Jimmyz Hibachi and THEN I went shopping. I knew I wouldn't be buying an Easter dress (although I may wear the one dress I own), but I did buy an Easter accessory!! It is a fabulous and I'm not letting myself use it until that Sunday.

Okay, I think this brings you up to date. I can't wait to hang out with friends Easter weekend and use my surprise accessory!
