Well Memorial Day has come and gone and summer is here!! Which means not only will I be a slacker in life, I'll possibly be a slacker on this blog. So prepare for disappointment..lol. You're going to get a lot stories that I've been to the beach and I'm going to brag about it so be ready for it.
Speaking of that...I went to the beach for Memorial Day weekend. That weekend is always Atlantic Beach Bike Fest (AKA: Black Bike Week) and it happens just a few blocks from our neighborhood. This means that we can pull up to the main road in our golf cart, order up some ice cream, and watch the festivities. There are some beautiful bikes and some nasty outfits; it never fails to entertain! One big issue we had this year was that the barricade that blocks part of the road was extended and it blocked out golf cart access to the beach. Although I was SUPER annoyed Friday morning, we eventually figured out a way (albeit slightly illegal) to get to the beach and back on the golf cart.
Okay, this blog has been in process for about 4 hours and isn't getting far. I've got something happening this Thursday so I'll come back and tell you all about it!
Slightly stressed out full-time student (Masters in Marriage and Family Therapy), working my internship in Counseling and living at the family beach house nicknamed Therapy.

Summer Reading

Hi, my name is Melissa and I'm addicted to reading books for fun on my Nook.
I've spent so much of the last few years forcing myself NOT to read for fun because I have had so many school books to read. NO MORE! I will still read psych related books, but I have quite the summer list racking up and it seems like more are added weekly.
I started out with one that I wanted to read first before I saw the movie, Water For Elephants. It was a great book and I can't wait to see the movie version.

Next, I read a book about a story I already knew well. The Pioneer Woman (http://thepioneerwoman.com/) is a mom, blogger, wife of a hot cowboy who decided to write her love story and it is an awesome one. So I was more than happy to re-read it in its new book form!

Now I'm on to another pre-movie book as a quick read and it turns out that these types of books are great for working out. I read a ton of pages before I notice I've been working out for 25 minutes. Fun book.

This book is a little more serious; 1960s, black woman, working as "the help". It was suggested by several coworkers so it may make an appearance on the Nook this summer.

This book was also one suggested at work. Its not going to be a light read, but there is a group at work using it as a tool for work. So it may get read also.

There are others and more get added constantly. I can't wait to spend Memorial Day weekend at Therapy laying out and reading!! I LOVE not having assignments to stress over! Hope y'all have a great weekend getting ready for next weekend and that you all get a day off.

The Weekend In Pictures
This awesome woman was in town for the weekend so we got to do two of our favorite things: a baseball game and a trip to Starbucks!
Early in the evening....
Eleven innings into the game and the BULLS WIN!!! Notice the red eyes and smoke coming from the bull in left field. One of the DBAPs best features! That's my awesome mom! Happy Mothers Day to all the moms reading this!!

It is Finished!!!
Nothing as awesome as Jesus on the cross. However, I am pretty excited about it! I just finished my last assignment in my last normal class!!!!!!!!! All I have left between and my masters are two semesters of a practicum and internship. These last two classes were certainly my hardest as they should be, but I passed them and I think I got Bs in each. At this point, I'm okay with that. I loved my 4.0 GPA, but I get the degree whether it is a 3.0 or a 4.0! Clearly, I'm excited! And I got to mark this momentous occasion in one of my favorite places....Starbucks.
In other news, my dog mysteriously escaped the house today. I won't say what I think happened, but it should be clear that my 6.5lbs dog did not have the height to turn the back door handle nor does he have the weight to push the back door. So yea, a human opened it. I was in the shower after mowing the lawn, so one of my other roommates let him out. Could have been the kid, could have been the adults. Whoever it was would have paid dearly if my neighbor didn't have two new puppies that held Berk's interest for however long he was gone. Thankfully, he is safely back inside and a responsible adult is home to keep things under control.
One more piece of news: this blog will officially be my place to complain, whine, and celebrate my new membership at a gym. The Y is housed in the same buildings as my job, so it seemed silly not to join. Luckily I have a coworker who is joining in this misery with me. I've been a member for a week and today was my first workday not going there for my lunch break. I felt a little lazy and guilty, but I know I need to take breaks or I'll get burnt out.
My mother doesn't know that this blog exists and that is probably for the best, but should she ever find it and look back I'd like to say HAPPY MOTHERS DAY MOM!!!!
Have a good weekend Y'all!

FInally, good news on TV
I don't particularly care about the royal family of England or who they marry. However, in a time where we constantly hear about wars, people being abused/beaten/killed, and natural disasters it was nice to have some happy and somewhat silly news. AND the news lasted for weeks! If you have to have a wedding that big with that much protocol, they did well. The trees in the Abby looked great and softened the feel of the ceremony a lot.
Now, the dress. It is not my personal style but I think it looks gorgeous on her. Then again, if I were marrying a prince and had her body, it might be my style. On a side note: why is it that Charles and William who are relatively unattractive and seem to find beautiful women?
Now for my most and least favorite thing...the fascinators. Those hats are out of control! Some of them I would LOVE to wear for a fun occasion. Some of them should never have been made.

So what do you think about them? Should Americans start wearing them to special occasions?
Oh...and I joined a gym and started working out last week. As much as I kind of just want to keep it to myself, if I tell other people it forces accountability. I have a coworker who is in about the same place physically that I am so we're able to push each other. So far so good, but I've only just started. It does help that the guy who signed me up was SUPER hot!
